Saint Mary’s University switches to all Steinways

Saint Mary’s University has upgraded its music department.

“We went from Chevy to Cadillac,” said Dean of the School of the Arts Michael Charron.

The school has replaced all its pianos with Steinways, becoming one of 60 colleges and universities nationwide to claim bragging
rights as an All-Steinway School. Saint Mary’s is the sixth such institution in Minnesota.

“This sets a tone for our whole arts program that we’re striving for excellence here,” Charron said.

Saint Mary’s bought two grand pianos and eight uprights.  Saint Mary’s already owned two. Including a recent donation, the school has
13 of the handcrafted instruments.

Steinway pianos are known for their longevity and usually appreciate in value.
