Fliter's passion shines through at Vancouver Playhouse
Argentinian-born, European-trained Ingrid Fliter recently essayed a program including major
sonatas by Haydn, Beethoven, and Chopin Sunday evening at the Vancouver Playhouse.
Fliter was a welcome relief from the scores of well-trained but often unoriginal young pianists
touring the circuit. With technique to burn and impetuous passion, she displayed character,
ideas galore, and very much her own take on her repertoire of choice.
Divas occasionally change costume in mid concert; it's a rare thing for a pianist to change
instruments. After performing the first half of the evening on the VRS's Hamburg Steinway, Fliter
opted to present her Chopin on an American Steinway.
